I Must Be Crazy...

Hello everyone. It's been so crazy at my house as of the last few days. Why you ask?  Well, I've been thinking for a while about getting a pet. I really wanted a cat, but couldn't figure out where to put a litter box. I resigned myself to the fact that I would just have to break down and get a dog. I started to research puppy's at shelters and humane societies within 100 miles. You have got to be kidding me?! $375-400 to adopt a puppy? I understand that it takes money to run these establishments but seriously, $400? Most average breed dogs with registered papers cost aproximately that much. Is it any wonder that so many animals are not being adopted. Many households can afford the cost of a pet but not the adoption fees.

I just couldn't justify spending $400 dollars on a puppy this close to Christmas. Then I had and "Ah-Ha" moment, more like a 'Duh' moment really. I realized where I could put the litter box. Yay! That meant I could get a cat or two! Whoot Whoot!!

Tuesday morning after Jason arrived home from work he told me to get ready to go to town with him. Of course I needed to know why. Turns out he wanted to take me to see the kittens at our local humane society. Really?!?! I couldn't believe it, Jason didn't want to get cats. Oh well, I wasn't asking questions. So away we went.

Just for giggles after looking at the many kittens we took a gander at the puppies. OH MY GOD! Can you say cute!?! There were two puppies. One that was black and white, and a brown one with some white & black. I thought at first the brown one was a boxer, but his snout looked too narrow. We asked the attendant about him. He had been in the shelter for exactly one week, and was 7 weeks old. His mother was also there. He was the last of the litter. His mother is a German Shepard and his father is believed to be a Boxer.

Say hello to Red.

I KNOW!! Cute isn't he? How could I say no to Jason? The look on his face and then Red himself. So Red came home with us. All of us...

Say hello to Bonnie.

Don't forget to say hello to Mable.

Yes, two cats and a dog. I told you I must be crazy. I wanted the cats, Jason wanted the dog. What else was there to do but get them all. So all them came home with us. I know some of you must be thinking we broke the bank in order to rescue three animals from a shelter. In reality it was amazingly cheap. $95 for all three animals. Not only was the cost almost a quarter of the price of other shelters, but when we get Red and Bonnie fixed we will receive a reimbursement of $25 each. Mable was already spade when we bought her. I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was.

Even though Jason claims that he's not a cat person I think things will be just fine.

Well, that's my crazy life for the next little bit until the puppy is house trained and Bonnie gets over her fear of the litter box. Oh well, it was worth it just to see the look on Jason and the girls faces. Christmas should be interesting...

One last photo for today. There aren't many colorful or clear sunrises now that winter is setting in. Fortunately I was able to capture this photo yesterday morning.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the new members of my family.

Wishing all of you a most wonderful weekend.

  1. Aaaaaaawwwwwww!!!!! The twins are going to go nuts when they find out you have two cats & a dog. They'll never want to leave your house once they get there! Did Jason name the dog? As soon as I saw the name I thought of the Blake Shelton song 'Ol'Red' (which will now be running through my head all day). Seriously though, the animals are the cutest things ever.
    Love ya!

Tell me what was the girls reaction when they saw the new members of the family?

And thanks to Valisatie, I'm also gonna sing Blake's song all day long... hey, I'll even check out on YouTube if I could find the video. I haven't seen it in years!

  3. Hola Chica,

Love, love, love your Holiday Design. It looks spectacular! I see you are a "spur of the moment" girl, which is a trait to be cherised! I can't imagine how delighted your girls were over the new family members ;) Something now to fill your days for sure, while your munchkins are in school during the day.

    Much Love to you!

  5. I see they are slowly taken over the sofa already!!!! How cute and congrat on the new members. I appauled you for humane society, where these animals really need good homes. Thats where I got Buster. I have had dog bred, and one from a pet store, and I have to say Buster has really had the best personality of them all. I did pay 300 for him but it was well worth it. I also had a sweet cat from there has well who has since pasted. Aagin they are all soooooooooo cute!!!! Enjoy

  7. Hey Sis,

LOL! They can stay as long as they want, even if it's only for the animals!

Red is the name he had when he was dropped off at the shelter. The song is why Jason wanted to keep the name!!

Can't wait for you guys to meet them all.

    Love You

  8. Hey Jon,

Red is a punk! But then again so are the two kittens. I guess they really do fit in around here. lol

The girls walked in from school and were in shocked awe. They froze for a second and then moved in slow motion taking their stuff off. In whispered giggles they both reached for the animals. For the look on their faces alone I'd do it again a thousand times if I could. My heart aches with happiness at just the thought of their joy that day.

  9. Robin!

Hello pretty lady. Happy to hear from you.

Yeah, I'm kind of a 'Go big or go home' kind of gal. The girls were ecstatic, and Jason is thrilled about the dog. I of course will definitely not become bored while the family is away during the day.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope all is going well for you and yours.

  11. Mistress Maddie :D

Thanks Doll. They have already brought so much joy to the house and to us. I don't think the cats have a preference to any one of us in particular, just whom ever happens to be occupying the couch!

I don't mind paying a lot for a pet, I just couldn't justify it just now. Although I do believe that it shouldn't cost that much to adopt. More animals would find loving homes if the initial cost wasn't quite so high. Anyways, glad to hear from you as always.

  12. Hey TeeBee,

I've gone over the edge that's for sure. It's like having a new born all over again.

I thought you might like Mable. She's my blogging companion. Always sitting on my arms or chest while I'm typing. See

  13. We have a muted calico kind of like that only more dusty, and a Main coon. both are manxes. (no tail and I'm not allergic to them.) The bad thing about animals is that you can never go anywhere. The good thing is that they are worth it. I can't believe it cost that much there. We paid 50 and the license, and we had to get it neutered. Maybe 135. The real cost comes maintaining them. Make sure dog gets heartworm meds every year.

  14. Hi Curmudgeon!

We always had manxes while I was growing up. I don't mind leaving the cats for a few days for they can survive on their own with a large bowl of dry food & water. The puppy, well I took all that into consideration. We don't travel much. If we do it's usually not far or pet friendly. If it's not, we have sitters for him.

The overall cost wasn't bad for all 3 pets, 95$. One cat is already fixed, so we just have the other & the puppy to do. Some of the shelters are ridiculous, but ours is just a small operation so that helps. We'll do all we can to keep him safe from heartworms. We are lucky. I could walk to the vet if I had a mind to. It's only a couple of miles down the road.

Thanks for stopping by, don't be a stranger.

  15. Not the most practical position, but I'm seeing it from my perspective 'cause I have a desktop, not a laptop. Carrie climbs on the desk and lay down on the keyboard, sticking her face against the screen. Ophelia, on the other hand, is more into television. climbing on the console and just sitting in front of the TV, staring at it...
    KATZ!!
    no figuring them out...

  16. Haha! That's why I love cats, you never know what the day is going to bring with them around.

Bonnie is the one who sits next to me and then attacks the screen when the pictures move.

  17. Carrie attacks the cursor; otherwise, she's rather complacent when looking at the screen. Ophelia, on the other hand, seems rather invested on whatever goes on the tv set.
